5/31/2018 El Cajon, CA- The “Battle South of the Border” would kick off this past Saturday for Round 2 at Estero Beach. The fans poured in early and were certainly rewarded with quite a show. Pro 2 was the first pro class on the track for qualifying and Jerett came out with some speed but unfortunately his first lap would be his fastest and ended up qualifying in 6th. He’d start the main event on the outside of row 3.

With a tough starting position behind Rob MacCachren, RJ Anderson, Jeremy McGrath, and Brian Deegan, Jerett would waste no time moving up through the field. At the green flag, Jerett would make a move in turns 1 and 2 and came out in 5th. After an early yellow, they’d restart only a few minutes into the race. Jerett would capitalize on great restart and made a move up to 3rd. However later that lap, he’d drop a spot into 4th where he’d remain the rest of the race. It was a smooth run and kept us in 3rd place in the points standings after 2 rounds of racing.

For round 3, the team was determined to find some more speed and a few minor changes would allow Jerett to qualify in the 4th position with his personal best lap of the weekend. An inversion of zero would put Jerett on the outside of row 2 to start the race.

On lap 1, a big crash behind Jerett in the first turn would require a full restart. This time, Jerett would have nobody ahead of him as Rob Mac made a trip to the hot-pit. As the race restarted, Jerett would quickly snag the second spot and do his best to try and run down RJ Anderson for the lead. Solid restarts were key for Jerett in round 3 as he’d have a couple more opportunities to make a move on RJ. After a few attempts to get by clean, he was unable to make a pass stick. Jerett finished in 2nd place for round 3 and was able to narrow the points gap between 3rd and 1st.
Jerett had this to say after the race, “It feels so good to finally feel like I can consistently run up front with all the fast guys and I know our truck is finally fast enough to compete each time we go out there. Our crew did an awesome job making the changes we needed to get on the podium and I can’t thank them enough. Big shout out to Rigid Industries, Bilstein, Toyo Tires, KMC Wheels, and all of my other sponsors who help us out, couldn’t have done without them.”
After three rounds of racing, Jerett remains in 3rd place in the standings, 18 points out of 1st, and 5 points ahead of 4th. It’s early in the season but after the first two stops on the calendar, consistency has been key. We’ll do it again next month in Wheatland, MO for rounds 4 & 5 at Lucas Oil Speedway.
