July 7, 2017, El Cajon, CA – The Lucas Oil Arizona Regional Series’ Rounds 5 & 6  were held at the Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, AZ on June 2-3.  It was a hot weekend of racing in Arizona with temps both days of 106° but that didn’t affect Black Rhino Performance sponsored athlete Mia Chapman’s results.

In Friday’s Modified Kart class qualifying, Mia qualified a solid 3rd place and was all set for a second row inside start. As the green flag dropped, Mia quickly realized she had lost all brakes. Quickly adapting to the loss of brakes she was able to keep it together for 12 laps of racing; crossing the checkered flag with a 3rd place finish. “I am very proud of myself for overcoming and adapting to the situation. After the race was over we found we had a broken brake line so we got it fixed for the next day”, Mia said.

On Saturday Mia qualified 1st with a starting inversion of 4. She got an awesome start when the flag dropped and by lap 2 found herself in the lead. 10 laps later she crossed the finish line with her first Modified Kart win!

One of Mia’s friends, Maddie Dye, was injured and could not race the JR2 class this weekend so Mia filled in for her. She drove the #409 JR 2 to a win both days sweeping the class.

Sunday Mia had the opportunity to fill in for Robert Vanbeekum in his Production Turbo UTV. “It was great to get back behind the wheel of a UTV, finishing a close 5th,” Mia recalled, “Thank you to all the people that support me.”
